Prompts | 주제

1. This house believes the potential public benefits of genetically modified crops such as golden rice outweigh the environmental consequences.

2. This house promotes the use of a virus that is only valid for wild boars to control their population.

Prompt No.2 will be given as the prompt for the preliminary round

The Process | 개요

KSBC contains two rounds in general. The preliminary round will be assessed through videos sent through the email provided. Each team will film a 6-minute 30-second video either supporting or opposing the debate prompt in a speech format by September 18, 2023. The registration will close on September 16, 2023. The videos will be reviewed by the judges and the teams advancing to the Debate Round will be chosen by September 20, 2023.

For the Debate Round, the teams will have to prepare and research the rest of the topics. This is because the judges will randomly choose the debate topics on the spot out of the 5 questions above. The “agree” and “disagree” sides will also be randomly chosen on the spot.

KSBC는 일반적으로 2라운드로 구성되어 있습니다. 예선전은 공개된 이메일을 통해 전송된 영상를 통해 평가됩니다. 각 팀은 2023년 9월 18까지 토론 주제를 지지하거나 반대하는 6분 30초 분량의 영상를 연설 형식으로 촬영합니다. 등록은 2023년 9월 16에 마감됩니다. 영상은 심사위원들에 의해 검토될 것이고 토론 라운드에 진출한 팀들은 2023년 9월 20일까지 공지될 것입니다.

토론 라운드를 위해 진출에 성공한 팀들은 나머지 주제를 조사해야 합니다. 토론 주제는 위의 5가지 질문 중에서 심사위원들이 즉석에서 무작위로 선정하며 각팀의 찬반여부 또한 무작위로 선정합니다.

Preliminary Round | 예선

The video and script for the speech must be submitted by September __, 11:59 PM KST. Late submissions are not excused and will result in disqualification.

The two files must be submitted in the required formats to seoulsynbio@gmail.com by the team leader or team's official email, and failing to meet the file format requirements will result in a point deduction.

- Maximum video length: 6 minutes 30 seconds

- Maximum file size: 1 GB

- Accepted file type: .mp4, .mov

- Edits to the video are not allowed, including team logo overlays, subtitles, and more.

Script

- Must be written in English

- Accepted file type: .pdf, .doc, .docx, .txt

- Do not include external links to other files, images, or videos

연설 영상과 대본은 9월 18일 오후 11:59 (KST)까지 제출해야 합니다. 제출이 늦을 시 실격 처리됩니다.

Debate Round | 본선

Preliminary Round winning teams will be announced by September 20, 2023, and the winning teams will have one week to prepare for the Debate Round.

Debate Round will be a debate session held online through Zoom on September 20, 2023. At the beginning of the debate session, the “agree” and “disagree” sides will also be randomly chosen. Therefore, each team should prepare and research for each side for given prompts.

The debate will be a total of 30 minutes:

10 minutes to organize your side
3 minutes will be given to each team to share their thesis with scientific evidence.
5 minutes will be given to each team to question the opponent's claim and answer them.
2 minutes will be given to each team to conclude and restate the thesis

The judges will not judge based on which side is correct but on how well the team uses scientific evidence to back up their claim. The quality of the question and answer will also be included in the process of selecting the winner.

The winner will be awarded the certificate and prize money within one week from the date of the competition.

예선 통과팀은 2023년 9월 20일까지 발표되며, 각 팀은 본선을 준비하기 위해 3일의 시간을 갖게 됩니다.

본선은 2023년 9월 23 줌을 통해 온라인으로 진행됩니다. 토론이 시작되면 위의 주제에 관해 '찬성'과 '반대' 측을 무작위로 선정합니다. 따라서 각 팀은 주제에 대해 준비하고 조사해야 합니다.

토론 시간은 총 30분입니다:

10분의 준비시간이 주어집니다.

이후 각팀은:

3분 동안 본 팀의 주장을 과학적 증거와 함께 공유할 수 있습니다.
5분 동안 상대방의 주장에 대해 질문하고 답변할 수 있습니다.
2분 동안 주장을 마무리하고 정리할 수 있습니다.

심사위원들은 어느 쪽이 옳은지를 기준으로 판단하지 않고 각 팀이 그들의 주장을 뒷받침하기 위해 과학적 증거를
얼마나 잘 사용하는지를 기준으로 판단할 것입니다. 수상자 선정 과정에는 질의응답의 질도 포함될 예정입니다.

우승자에게는 대회 개최일로부터 1주일 이내에 상장과 상금이 수여됩니다.
